Applications
CSP is used in storm water management to alleviate urban flooding and damage during major rainfall events. Innovative engineering systems temporarily detain storm water in underground tanks to reduce flooding in urban areas and prevent overloading downstream.
Many municipalities depend on groundwater as their principle source of water. While urban development may increase the rate at which storm water runs off of the land, this water can be collected in perforated CSP underground tanks. In the right geological conditions this water seeps out of the pipes and eventually is filtered through underlying soils to the aquifer below.
Once storm water is gone from a site it is gone. If it can be retained in underground tanks it is available for later use in geothermal heating, firefighting, irrigation, car washing, and toilet flushing.
